  • Caron International Wintuk 4 worsted weight yarn (3.5 ounces per skein): 1 skein each off-white #65, mist green #187 and baby blue #71.
  • Size J/ 10 crochet hook
  • Size H/8 crochet hok
  • 8 (3/4 inch) buttons
  • Tapestry needle
  • Sewing needle and thread

Gauge

7 sc = 2 inches; 3 sc rows = 1 inch.

Sporty Sweater

Size: Children’s sizes 4-6, 8-10, and 12. Finsihed chest: 30, 33 and 36 inches

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn: 8 (16, 16) oz. burgundy, 8 oz each navy and green
  • Size H/8 crochet hook
  • Crochet hook size G/6
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

13 sts = 4 inches, 5 pattern rep = 4 inches

Pattern notes

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Sl st to join each rnd in top of beg st. Ch 3 counts as first dc throughout. If only one number or set of instructions i given, it applies to all sizes.

Fptr: Yo hook twice, insert hook front to back to front again around vertical post of indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 3 times.

Back

Row 1 (RS): With hook size H and navy, ch 50 (55, 60), sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (49, 54, 59 sc)

Row 2 (WS): Ch 3, dc in each st across, turn.

Row 3 (RS); Ch 1, sc in each of next 4 sts, [fptr around post of next sc 2 rows below, sk dc directly behind fptr, sc in each of next 4 dc] rep across, turn.

Notes: Rows 4 & 5 establish pattern rows of sweater. As the colors change, simply fasten off and attach next color.

Row 4 (WS): Ch 3, dc in each st across, turn.

Row 5 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each of enxt 4 dc, [fptr around fptr directly below, sk dc directly behind fptr, sc in each of next 4 dc] rep across, turn.

[Rep Rows 4 & 5] once (once, twice) with navy.

[Rep Rows 4 & 5] once with green.

[Rep Rows 4 & 5] once with navy.

[Rep Rows 4 & 5] once with green. Attach burgundy and rep Rows 4 & 5 until piece measures 14 (15 1/2, 16 1/2) inches from beg, ending pattern with Row 5, fasten off.

Front

Rep the same as for back until front measure 11 ( 12 1/2, 13) inches, ending pattern with Row 5.

First neckline shaping

Row 1 (WS): Ch 3, dc in each of next 16 (18, 20) sts, dec 1 dc over next 2 sts, leaving rem sts unworked, turn. (18, 20, 22 dc)

Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, dec 1 sc over next 2 sts at neckline edge, work in pattern of Row 5 across, turn. (17, 19, 21 sts)

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in each st across, dec 1 dc over next 2 sts at neckline edge, turn. (16, 18, 20 dc)

Row 4: Rep row 2. ( 15, 17, 19 sts). Work even in pattern on rem 15 (17, 19) sts until front measures the same as back, fasten off.

Second neckline shaping

Row 1 (WS): Sk next 11 (12, 13) sts of front for neckline opening, attach burgundy in next sc, ch 2, dc in next st (counts as beg dc dec throughout), dc in each st across row, turn. (18, 20, 22 dc)

Row 2 (RS): Work in pattern Row 5 across to last 2 sts, dec 1 sc over next 2 sts, turn. (17, 19, 21 sts)

Row 3: Beg dc dec over next 2 sts at neckline edge, dc in each rem st across, turn.

Row 4: Rep Row 2. (15, 17, 19 sts) Work even in pattern on rem 15 (17, 19) sts until front measures the same as back, fasten off.

Sleeve

Make 2

With hook size H and burgundy, ch 25, (30, 30), work in established pattern as for back, working 8 (9, 9) pattern rep with burgundy, 1 rep with navy, 1 rep with burgundy, 1 rep with green and the rem with burgundy and at the same time inc 1 st at each end of every RS row 3 (2, 3) times (30, 33, 35 sts); then every other RS row 4 (4, 5) times (38, 41, 45 sts). Work even in pattern until sleeve measures 12 (14, 15) inches from beg, ending pattern with Row 5, fasten off.

Neckline Ribbing

Sew front and back shoulder seams tog.

Rnd 1 (RS): With hook size H, attach burgundy with sl st in first st after seam at right back neck, ch 3, dc in next 18 (19, 20) sts, dc in ends of rows down front left shoulder (13 sts), dc across next 11 (12, 13) sts across front neck and dc 13 sts in ends of rows up right front shoulder, join in top of beg ch-3. (56, 58, 60 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, [fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc] rep around, join in top of beg ch-2.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, [fpdc around fpdc, bpdc around bpdc] rep around, join in top of beg ch-2, fasten off.

Assembly

Fold sleeve in half lengthwise, holding center of sleeve at shoulder seam, sew sleeve into opening. Sew sleeve and side seam.

Sleeve Ribbing

Rnd 1 (RS): With hook size G, attach burgundy in opposite side of foundation ch, ch 3, dc in each st around, join in top of beg ch-3.

Rnd 2: Rep Rnd 2 of neckline ribbing.

RNd 3 & 4: Rep rnd 3 of neckline ribbing.

Bottom Ribbing

Rnds 1-4: Rep Rnds 1-4 of sleeve ribbing.

Pattern Notes: Weave in loose ends as work progresses. To change color in dc, work last st before color change until 2 lps rem on hook, with new color, yo, draw through rem 2 lps on hook. To change color in sc, with present color draw up a lp in last st before color change, with new color, yo, draw through rem 2 lps on hook.

Cardigan is worked in 1 piece to the duck motifs. When working the graphed duck section, use separate balls of yarn colors across.

Materials:Sport Weight yarn; 7 (8-9) oz White, 1 (1-1) oz Red, 1 (1-1) Green

Back Body:
With white yarn and crochet hook size F, ch 60 (65-75).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn. 59 (64-74)
Row 2: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Rep row 2 for 11 ½” (12” – 12 ½”) ending on wrong side. (To end on wrong side, end with
even numbered row. ) Fasten off.
Back Sleeve:
With white yarn and crochet hook size F, ch 45 (48-51).
Row 1: Returning to main piece, sc in first st of the right side of the back, sc in each rem
st across, ch 46 (49-52)
Row 2: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, sc in each sc across back, sc in

Apple Stem:
With brown and crochet hook size F, ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 4 chs, fasten
off.
Finishing:
Using appropriate yarn colour and yarn needle, sew appliqués to sweater front. Place
apple in lower left corner of sweater, sew 2 leaves and stem to top of apple. Sew
remaining 3 leaves to right top shoulder area.
Sew side and sleeve seams of sweater body, leaving about 1 ½” on each side seam open.
Neck Trim:
Attach white yarn in any st at neck edge and working with crochet hook size F, ch 1, sc in
each st around neck opening, sl st to join, fasten off.
Sleeve and Bottom Trim:
Rnd 1: With right side facing and working with crochet hook size F, attach white yarn in
any st, ch 1, sc in each st evenly sp around, join, fasten off.
Rnd 2: With wrong side facing and working with crochet hook size F, attach red yarn in
any st, ch 1, sc in each st evenly sp around, join, fasten off.
Rnd 3: Rep rnd 1.
Work all loose ends into sweater.
