Blue Ice Afghan

Finished Size: About 43″ x 57″

Materials:

  • Worsted yarn: 30 oz. off-white; 7 oz. lt blue; 7oz med. blue
  • H hook or hook neded to obtain gauge

Gauge: Motif = 7″ square

Basic Stitches: Ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc, dtr.

Motif (make 48)

Rnd 1: With off-white, work the following steps to complete rnd 1:

A. For first circle, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st in top of ch 3;

B. For next circle, ch 7, sl st in 4th ch from hook to form ring, ch 3, 11 dc in ring just made, join in top of last ch3, sl st in first ch of ch 7 (this is center ch);

C.: For next circle, ch 6, sl st in 4th ch from hook to form ring, ch 3, 11 dc in ring just made, join in top of last ch3, sl st in center ch;

D. For last circle, repeat step C. Fasten off. (Ch 3 at beginning of each circle counts as first dc; 12 dc in each circle, 4 circles made.)

Rnd 2:Join light blue with sc in 4th dc from ch 3 on any circle, sc in next 2 dc, ch 3 for corner, sc in next 3 dc, (dtr, ch 2, dtr) in center ch of rnd 1, *skip next 3 dc past ch 3 on next circle, sc in next 3 dc, ch 3 for corner, sc in next 3 dc, (dtr, ch 2, dtr) in center ch on rnd 1; repeat from &around, join in first sc.

Blue Ice Afghan

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in corner ch sp, *sc in next 4 sts, sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next 4 sts,  (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in corner ch sp; repeat from * 2 more times, sc in next 4 sts, sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in last dtr, join. Fasten off.

Rnd 4: With off-white, to join with hdc, place lp on hook; holding yarn end against hook to prevent slipping, yo, in sert hook in any corner ch sp and complete as hdc; ch 2, hdc in same ch sp as first hdc, *(ch 1, skip next st, hdc in next st) 2 times, [ ch1, skip next 2 sts; working over rnd 3, 5 dc in next ch sp on rnd 2, ch 1, skip next 2 sts on rnd 3, (hdc in next st, ch 1, skip next st) 2 times], (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in corner ch sp; repeat from * 2 more times, (ch 1, skip next st, hdc in next st) 2 times;  repeat between [ ], join in first hdc. Fasten off.

Rnd 5: join med. blue with sc in any corner ch sp, ch 2, sc in same sp, *(sc in next st on last rnd; working behind ch 1, dc in skipped st on rnd 3) 3 times, [sc in next 5 sts on last rnd, 9dc in skipped st on rnd 3, sc in next st on lasr rnd) 3 times], (sc, ch2, sc) in corner ch sp; repeat from * 2 more times, (sc in next st on last rnd, dc in skipped st on rnd 3) 3 times; repeat between [ ], join. Fasten off.

Rnd 6; Join off-white with sc in any corner ch sp, ch 2, sc in same sp< * ch 1, skip next st, (sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st) across to corner, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner ch sp; repeat from * around ending with ch 1, skip next st, 9sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st) across, join.

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in each st and in each ch-1 sp around with (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch sp, join. Fasten off.

Assembly

Rows 1-2; To form lengthwise rows, hold right sides of first 2 Motifs together; matching stitches and working through both thicknesses as one, join off-white with sc in corner ch sp, (sc in each st across, sc in corner ch sp, ch 1; hold right side of next 2 Motifs together and sc in corner ch sps) 7 times, sc in each st across last 2 Motifs, sc in corner ch sp (You should have 2 rows with 8 Motifs in each row, joined lengthwise). Fasten off.

Rows 3-6: Work same as last rows joining another row of Motifs to one row already joined until you have 6 rows with 8 Motifs in each row. To join Motifs crosswise, joining in same manner as lengthwise rows, work across rows until all open inner edges are joined.

Border

Rnd 1: With right side facing you, join off-white with sc in any corner ch sp, ch 2, sc in same corner ch sp, sc in each st and in each ch sp around with hdc in each seam and (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch sp, join. Fasten off.

Rnd 2: Join light blue with sl st in last st worked in any corner, sl st in each st around with ch 2 at each corner, join in first sl st. Fasten off.

Rnd 3: Working in back lps  of sts of rnd 1 and in corner ch sps of rnd 1, join med. blue with sc in any corner ch sp, ch 2, sc in same sp, sc in eachs t around with (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch sp, join.  Fasten off.

Basic Stitches:  Ch, sl st, sc, dc, tr.

Afghan

Motif (make 40)

Rnd 1: With white, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, ( 3dc, ch 2)  3times in ring, join with sl st in top of ch-3. Fasten off. (4 ch sps made)

Simply Simple Afghan

Rnd 2: Join pink with sl st in any ch sp, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch sp as joining sl st (shell made), ch 1; * for shell, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp; ch 1; repeat from * around, join. Fasten off.

Center

Matching sts, with tapestry needle and pink, sew Motifs together through inside lps , five Motifs wide and 8 Motifs long.

Border

Rnd 1: With right side of Center facing you, working across one short edge, join pink with sl st in right-hand corner ch sp, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch sp as joining sl st, <> * (ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in next corner ch sp, dc in next seam, dc in next corner ch sp) across to last Motif on this side, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp,, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1<>, shell in next ch-2 sp; repeat from *; repeat between first and second <>. join with sl st intop of ch-3. Rnds 6-14; Repeat rnds 2-5 consecutively ending with rnd 2.

Rnd 15: Join pink with sc in center dc of any 3-dc group, (dc, ch 2, tr, ch 2, dc) in next ch sp, * sc in center dc of next 3-dc group, (dc, ch 2, tr, ch 2, dc) in next ch sp; repeat from * around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Strawberry Fields Afghan

Add a touch of old-fashioned romance to your home. Afghan is worked in strips with worsted weight yarn using a size I/9 crochet hook. Finished size is 43 1/2″ x 59″.

Materials

Caron Wintuk worsted weight yarn ( 3 1/2 oz per skein): 6 skeins pure oink #3085, 4 skeins strawberry field ombre #3552 and 2 skeins strawberry #3057

Size I/9 crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge: 7dc = 2″. To save time, tame time to check gauge.

Join rnds with a sl st unless otherwise stated.

Strip

make 8

Row 1:

With pure pink, ch 198, dc in 4th ch from hook and in each rem ch across, ch 3, join in base of last dc worked. (195 dc with ch-3 sp at end of row)

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc throughout), working on opposite side of foundation ch, * dc in each st across to ch-3 sp, [ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3] in ch-3 sp, working in tops of sts of Row 1, rep from * across, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3, fasten off.

Rnd 3: Attach strawberry with a sl st around post of ch-3 at beg of Rnd 2, ch 4, sk next dc, fpdc in next st, *[ch 1, sk 1 st, fpdc around next st] rep across to ch-3 sp, hdc in each of next  3 dc, [hdc, ch 3, hdc] in next corner ch-3 sp, rep from * across, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-4, fasten off.

Rnd 4: Attach strawberry field with a sc in ch-1 sp to left of last sl st made, *[bpdc in next dc, sc in ch-1 sp] rep across, ending in last ch-2 sp, bpdc in last dc, sc in next hdc, [sc, ch 3, sc] in corner ch-3 sp, sc in each of next 5 hdc, [sc, ch 3, sc] in next corner ch-3 sp, sc in next hdc, rep from *across, bpdc in beg ch-4 of Rnd 3, join in beg sc, fasten off.

Rnd 5: Attach pure pink with a sl st in ch-3 corner sp to right of long side, ch 3, * dc in each st across to next ch-3 corner sp, [dc, ch 4, dc] in same sop, dc in each of next 7 sc **[dc, ch 4, dc] in next corner ch-3 sp, rep from *around, ending last rep at **, dc in corner ch-3 sp, ch 4, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3, fasten off.

Joining

Holding 2 strips WS tog, attach strawberry field with a sl st in corner ch-4 sp of front strip, ch 2, dc in first dc of back strip, *sk 1 st of front strip, dc in next st, sk 1 st of back strip, dc in next st, rep from * across, ending in last dc of back strip, ch 2, sl st in corner ch-3 sp of front strip, ch 2, sl st in corner ch-3 sp of fron strip, fasten off.

Rep for rem strips.
