Pattern Notes
All sizes begin in the same manner. As appropriate size is reached you will be instructed to move to the Forehead Section. After this point the pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes within parenthesis. If only one number appears it applies to all sizes.

The ch 1 at the beginning of every rnd always counts as the first sc st. This is noted in the set up rnd, but continues to apply throughout the pattern.

Hat Pattern
Using mc, ch 4, sl st into your first ch to form a rnd.

Set Up Rnd: Ch 1 (counts as first sc), work 7 sc into center of rnd — 8 sts.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same st, *2 sc in next st; rep from * around. Sl st in beg ch to end — 16 sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in next st, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st; rep from * around. Sl st in beg ch to end — 24 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in next 2 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around. Sl st in beg ch to end — 32 sts.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in next 3 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 3 sts; rep from * around. Sl st in beg ch to end — 40 sts.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in next 4 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 4 sts; rep from * around. Sl st in beg ch to end — 48 sts.

Stop increasing here for Preemie/12” size and proceed to Forehead Section.

Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in next 5 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 5 sts; rep from * around. Sl st in beg ch to end — 56 sts.

Stop increasing here for Baby/14” size and proceed to Forehead Section.

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in next 6 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 6 sts; rep from * around. Sl st in beg ch to end — 64 sts.

Stop increasing here for Toddler/16” size and proceed to Forehead Section.

Forehead Section — All Sizes
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 1 sc in every st around, sl st to beg ch to end rnd — 48 (56, 64) sts.
*Repeat this rnd until hat measures 4.25 (4.75, 5.25)” from center top of crown or desired length.

Fasten off last st.

Snowmen
Large Circle
Using cc1, work same as Hat Pattern until Rnd 3 (4, 5).

Ties: Do not cut yarn after last rnd. Work a 12 (14, 18)” ch.

Fasten off last st of ch.

Small Circle
Using cc1, work same as Hat Pattern until Rnd 1 (2, 3).

Fasten off last st.

Snowman’s Top Hat
Using cc2, ch 12 (12, 15), sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch to end, turn — 11 (11, 14) sc.

Row 1: Ch 1, 1 sl st in next 3 (3, 4) sts, 1 sc in next 5 (5, 6) sts, turn — 3 (3, 4) sl sts and 5 (5, 6) sc.

Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in next 5 sts, turn — 5 (5, 6) sc.

Fasten off last st.

Finishing
Place one of the Largest Circles on side of hat so that approximately 1/3 of the circle lays on the hat and ch for tie is hanging down freely. Sew circle securely in place. Repeat for second large circle on opposite side of hat.

Sew one Small Circle to hat above each Large Circle.

Sew Top Hat above each small circle.

Use cc2, cc3, and tapestry needle to embroider eyes, nose, mouth, and buttons on each snowman.
