Fan Edge Handkerchief

Size: Edging is 1  1/8″ wide.

Materials:

100 yds. pink #818 Cebelia Art. 167A by DMC or size 30 crochet cotton thread; 10″ square hemmed handkerchief; No. 10 steel hook.

Gauge

I am not responsible for lack of materials due to project not being worked to gauge. Gauge for this pattern: 6 sc = 1/2″; 3 dc rows = 1/2″

Basic stitches: Ch, sl st, sc, dc.

Special stitches:

For shell, (2 dc, ch 2, 2dc) in next st.

For beginning shell (beg shell), (ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in first st.

Instructions

Edging

Rnd 1: Place slip knot on hook, working around outer edge of fabric, starting at one corner; push hook through fabric, yo, draw lp through, complete as sc, sc in same sp, (*evenly space 103 sc across to next corner*, 3 sc in next corner) 3 times; repeat between **, sc in same sp as first sc, join with sl st in first sc. (105 sc across each edge between corner sts)

Rnd 2: Beg shell (see Special Stitches), [ch 2, skip next 2 sts, (sc in next st, ch 2) 5 times, *skip next st, shell (see Special Stitches) in next st, ch 2, skip next st, sc in next st, (ch 2, skip next st, sc in next st, (ch 2, sc in next st) 4 times ch 2; repeat from * across to 2 sts before next center coern st, skip next 2 sts, shell in next st]; repeat between [ ] 2 more times; repeat between, join with sl st in top of ch-3. (78 ch-2 sps, 65 sc and 12 shells between each corner shell)

Rnd 3: CH 3, dc in next st, *[ Ch 2, 2 dc in next ch sp, ch 2, dc in next 2 sts, ch 2, skip next ch sp, sc in next ch sp, (ch 2, sc in next ch sp) 3 times, ch 2, skip next ch sp], dc in next 2 sts; repeat from *50 more times; repeat between []. join.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *[(ch 2, dc in next 2 dc) 2 times, ch 2, skip next ch sp, sc in next ch sp, (ch n2, sc in next ch sp) 2 times, ch 2, skip next ch sp], dc in next 2 dc; repeat from *( 50 more times;  repeat between [ ], join.

Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in next dc *(ch 2, (2 dc in next dc, ch 2) 2 times, dc in next 2 dc, ch 2, skip next ch sp, sc in next ch sp, ch 2, sc in next ch sp, ch 2, skip next ch sp], dc in next 2 dc; repeat from * 50 more times; repeat between [  ], join.

Rnd 6: (Ch 3, dc) in first st; (*skipping ch sps between 2-dc groups, 2 dc in each of next 7 dc, skip next ch sp, sc in next ch sp, skip next ch sp*, 2 dc in next dc) 51 times; repeat between **, join. Fasten off.
